The Original & More Fun family weekend in Andorra

The Original & More Fun family weekend in Andorra, Andorra

The most original and fun weekend in the Principality of Andorra starts out with a trip on the Tobotronc, the largest Alpine coaster in the world located in the Naturlandia Eco Park in Sant Julià de Lòria. Afterwards, visitors with young ones get the chance to learn, discover and poke about at the Electricity Museum, the Nature Interpretation Centre or the National Automobile Museum. The ski resorts open up again in June with summer activities, becoming base camps for families thanks to their special open air activities.

Traveling with the family can be a great experience for everyone. Andorra offers a wide selection of opportunities for all ages in summer and winter at any of its ski resorts. The ski lifts give way to bikes in the summer to enjoy the many trails for amateurs and experts alike. Archery, quads, horse trails, zip lines and many more activities, including a ball pit, are just some of the activities to do with children at Grandvalira, Naturlandia and Vallnord.

The longest toboggan in the world

One of the favourite attractions for the whole family is the Tobotronc at Naturlandia. The ride comprises a two-seater sled running on steel tracks around the forest. The person sat behind steers the sled with two levers for braking or letting the sled go with the downhill force. Different signs recommend slowing down at different sections.
The Tobotronc route covers 5.3 km, 1.7 uphill and 3.6 downhill thanks to a ski lift going over a 400 metre drop. The Tobotronc follows a trail through La Rabassa forest, uncovering nature from the inside. A safe, environmentally-friendly attraction offering excitement and fun for all ages.

Cultural guide with the tourist bus

The most practical way to discover the Principality of Andorra is travelling with the family on the tourist bus that visits key spots in the country. The bus runs year-round, is free for under-12s and includes an audio guide in four languages (Catalan, Spanish, French and English). There are different four-hour routes in winter and summer and the ticket price (€12 for one route, €18 for two) includes entry to the museums and guided tours.

We recommend a trip with youngsters to the Electricity Museum and the National Automobile Museum in Encamp from amongst the museums available in Andorra. The Electricity Museum is located on the ground floor of the Andorran hydroelectric plant and is split into three spaces: a scientific area on electrical energy, a space dedicated to the arrival of electricity in Andorra (1934) and how it changed people’s lives, and a third area offering workshops and fun experiments.

The National Automobile Museum shows the evolution of vehicles over time: from the Pinette steam engine (1885) – the museum’s oldest piece – to cars from the second half of the 20th century. The tour uncovers how the vehicles were used to transport people and goods.

Andorra - A thousand years of culture

Situated between France and Spain, Andorra provides an excellent alternative for a ski holiday away from the busier slopes of France. Set in the Pyrenees with dramatic views, Andorra has some of the best skiing around. Summer in Andorra is calm and unrushed with stunning blue skies and the greenest valleys you may ever see; the perfect location for an action-packed family adventure. Strap on the day pack and take a hike through the stunning mountains, cool off with a swim in crystal-clear lakes, and bike ride through picturesque valleys. Then step things up a notch and take to the skies on zip wires on a day trip to France. Back down on the ground pay a visit to a local market across the border in Spain. The fun never ends on the whirlwind eight day adventure in beautiful Andorra.

More than a thousand years of history underlie the architectural, cultural and popular heritage of Andorra. The Romanesque treasures hidden in the Principality bear witness to its origins and traditions. Here, art lives side-by-side with nature, traditional culture, and modern artistic events. The Principality of Andorra has a total of eleven routes. “El camí a França” (the road to France) runs from the Meritxell Sanctuary to the villages of Canillo. “Entre l’ahir I l’avui”, (between yesterday and today), is a route to Encamp. “Les valls silencioses” (the silent valleys) runs from Ordino to L’Arieja. The “Racons inoblidables” (unforgettable places) goes to La Massana. “El cor que batega” (the beating heart) is a route to Andorra la Vella and Santa Coloma. “Pas a l’art” (the art path) runs from Sant Julià de Lòria to Aixovall, and the “la font de cultura” (fountain of culture) is a route from Escaldes-Engordany to Engolasters.

Sleep in thematic rooms

Staying with children in Andorra can also be a fun experience. The Hotels Plaza chain has ‘Kids Suites’, thematic rooms connecting with parents’ rooms in two of their hotel complexes. At the Crowne Plaza Hotel (Andorra la Vella), the ‘Kids Suites’ are decorated based on a theme. There are three to choose from: space, the wild west and the circus. There is also a games room in the same complex. The Ski Plaza Hotel is located in Canillo and has Family Suites where children feel they are living in a real-life story. Fantasy and excitement to make your stay in the Pyrenean country even more enjoyable!
