Trekking/ Hiking In Canada Kootenay National Park, BC - Elevation: 11,000 Feet
Crisscrossing the Canadian Rockies is a labyrinth of remote and spectacular trails. One hundred and twenty-five miles of backpacking treks lead to the high alpine meadows and crystal clear streams of BC’s Kootenay National Park, which borders both Yoho and Banff National Parks (in Alberta). One of the many treks in Kootenay is the Rockwall Highline Trail, a journey along the base of a 1,640-foot escarpment—the Kootenay Wall. A seven-day trip through the park and the Highline takes trekkers up into a steep valley and across several secluded, high mountain passes. It’s an easy, nontechnical hike, but you will need to carry your own food and tent. Yamnuska, one of Canada’s most established mountain guiding companies, leads trips through both Kootenay and Jasper National Parks and beneath towering Mount Assiniboine.
