Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation Mr. Sharat Singh Bhandari, Chairman of Malaysian Tourism Promotional Board Datuk Dr. Victor Wee, CEO of Nepal Tourism Board Mr. Prachanda Man Shrestha and National Coordinator, National Programmer Implementation Committee of Nepal Tourism Year (NTY)-2011 Mr. Yogendra Shakya called on Prime Minister Mr. Madhav Kumar Nepal on February 3, 2010 to brief him the success story of Malaysian tourism as well as to keep him abreast of Nepal Tourism Year 2011’s activities.

In the meeting, Chairman of Malaysian Tourism Promotional Board Datuk Dr. Victor Wee briefed Prime Minister Nepal about the success of Malaysian tourism adding that Nepal has possibility and potentiality to replete the success that Malaysia achieved because of its vast tourism resources and attraction including spiritualism and Buddhism. He further said that behind the success of Malaysian Tourism Year 2007 was the commitment and endorsement from all sectors. “All Cabinet Ministers of Nepal should make firm commitment to make Nepal Tourism Year 2011 successful,” he advised. “Since long haul market is quite unpredictable, Nepal should concentrate on to bring more tourists from regional markets. Priority should be given to Airport infrastructure, Management and Operations,” he further said. As Malaysia has experience in developing regional airports in South Asia, its experience can be useful for Nepal too, he said. “Malaysian model of home stay could be suitable for Nepal and we are ready to train Nepalese manpower for this purpose.”Dr. Wee has been invited as Guest of Honor for PATA Adventure Travel and Responsible Tourism Conference and Mart 2010.

Mr. Prachanda Man Shrestha and Mr. Yogendra Shakya apprised Prime Minister about the launching of Nepal Tourism Year-2011 and requested for his full support to make it successful.

Prime Minister Nepal said that the Government has always given high priority to tourism industry. Malaysian experience could be useful for Nepal to make NTY a great success, he said. He also assured that Government would extend all kind of support to make NTY successful.
