Northern Trekking Tanzania’s Mt Kilimanjaro is the consummate global trekking experience. The highest freestanding mountain in the world (19,340 feet), Kili is formidable, but also accessible. Most routes up Kilimanjaro are nontechnical, but are long, physically demanding six-day slogs, with the altitude and cold presenting daunting obstacles. To ensure the safety of the thousands of trekkers who attempt Kilimanjaro each year, Tanzanian law requires one guide for every five trekkers, so you must organize your trip through a guide or an outfitter.

Mountain Madness, USA
Seattle-based Mountain Madness offers trips up Kili for various skill levels. The guides are knowledgeable and sensitive to preserving the area’s environmental integrity. They adamantly avoid the Marangu Route (known as the "tourist" route, which ends a couple hundred feet short of the true summit), and lead a more intoxicating climb to the top. As pioneers of the Mount Kilimanjaro's Shira Plateau Route, Mountain Madness has been offering outstanding service since 1985 and most socially and environmentally responsible adventure travel company in Northern Tanzania. Experience the Kilimanjaro climb with the experts offering first class equipment, campsites, cuisine, safe and comfortable four-wheel drive transportatation, and a greater than 90 percent summit success rate on Kilimanjaro. They utilize local Maasai guides as well as our highly trained Tanzanian Trip Leaders. All trips are also accompanied by an armed ranger. Route takes you up the Western Breach via the Shira Plateau, a route pioneered by Mountain Madness founders Scott Fischer and Wesley Krause. Krause moved to Tanzania and has been overseeing Mountain Madness operations on Kilimanjaro since the early 1980s. Kilimanjaro Trip Leaders have also been trained as Wilderness First Responders in the United States or by the National Outdoor Leadership School in Kenya. Incorporated in Tanzania under the name African Environments, Krause has played a key role in the certification and training of guides on Kilimanjaro.

Alpine Ascents International, USA
Kilimanjaro is one of 25 summits offered by Alpine Ascents. Guide and founder Todd Burleson has attempted Mt Everest 10 times. As one of the most fascinating and diverse regions on earth, Kilimanjaro has attracted both climbers and nature enthusiasts with its magnetism. The ascent up this great peak is non-technical by nature and it affords a full mountaineering experience (with all the rigors and rewards) for those in strong physical condition. Over the past ten years, Alpine Ascents International have emerged as a leader in guiding Kilimanjaro, applying expertise from other formidable mountains to the wilds of Africa. They consider the Kilimanjaro climb and safari expedition to be one of the most appealing and treasured adventure experiences we offer. Following climb they begin a four-day safari to the spectacular game parks of Tanzania. Throughout the safari, they lodge in luxurious hotels and travel by Land Cruiser across the Great Rift Valley, following wildebeests, lions and other indigenous wildlife. For those climbers with limited time, we offer a Climb-Only option for this trip at a reduced price. For those climber that are interested in family members joining them on the safari after the climb, or for those individuals interested in experiencing the fantastic game parks of Africa without the challenge of climbing Kilimanjaro, we offer a Safari-Only option on each of departures.
