Kayak Surfing In Mexico, Sea of Cortez, Baja - Total Miles: 60-70
The arid, finger-like peninsula of Baja California extends 760 miles south from California. Tucked neatly between that peninsula and mainland Mexico is one of the top sea kayaking playgrounds on the planet, the Sea of Cortez. With the island of Espíritu Santo as a base camp, paddlers on a seven-day trip can easily explore the stark desert coastline and crystalline blue waters. Kayakers hug the island’s volcanic cliffs for eight to ten miles each day as they enjoy close encounters with blue whales, sea lions and giant manta rays.
Health risks
The capital is located in Mexico City. The population of the area around Mexico City is about 20 million, the largest concentration of people in the world. The latest estimate (in 2000) has the population of Mexico at 97.4 million with an annual growth rate of 1.9%. Mexico has a chief executive (president); a bicameral legislature; a judicial system with a Supreme Court, local and federal courts; and an administrative subdivision of 31 states and one federal district. Mexico has a rapidly developing economy and has sought economic prosperity through liberalization of its trade regime.
Weather
Climate: Almost two thirds of the country has a warm temperate climate whilst other parts have a tropical climate where temperatures are governed by altitude. The coastal and lowland areas are hot and humid while the central plateau region has a temperate climate. The highlands tend to be fairly mild but can experience sharp drops in temperature at night. Rainfall varies greatly from region to region.
